Writers’ Mill Minutes, 202402

Six in person, 11 on Zoom, plus one gave us 18 people at Sunday’s “efficient use of WORD” meeting, presented somewhat inefficiently by Sheila with one computer and one hand.

Liz opened the meeting with contest results. The voting and comments on February’s Ezine provided us with a sense that readers really liked a LOT of the entries. As a result, we have 5 entries landing in the top spots this month. Here are the results:

  • MOST VOTES – Tied:
    • –Matthew McAyeal for “The Daydreamer”
    • –Judy Beaston for “Messages in the Stars”
  • SECOND MOST VOTES – Tied:
    • –Max White for “Dream Ja Vu”
    • –Sheila Deeth for “Cat Dreams”
  • THIRD:
    • Karin Krafft for her poem “My Winter Daydream”
  • OTHER ENTRIES –Feb. 2024 Entries & Voting Page (click here)
    • “A Day(Dream) in the Life of a Mother” BY Nora Perry
    • “A Mother’s Son” poem BY Sheila Deeth
    • “Adventure’s Bright Dawn” BY Robin Layne
    • “An Old Lady’s Thoughts” BY Jessie Collins
    • “Homo Somniens” BY Lyndsay Docherty
    • “The Shape of Things to Come” BY Peter Letts

With thanks to all the members who offered advice, questions, comments and more, most people present learned something during this meeting, so now we just have to try not to forget it all. To that end, Sheila has added (she hopes) everyone’s suggestions to the file she was working from, and uploaded the file in DOCX and PDF format to our website.

If you want to know what we did at the meeting, and if you want to use WORD more efficiently, please follow the links and download the files. Then you’ll be able to follow through all the actions and add to your own skillset.

Please let us know if you would like a session on WORD formatting, as we kind of ran out of time.

And please forgive these minimal minutes. Sheila had hand surgery, and it hurts to type.

Please look on the website to find info about the current “Season of Mystery” contest https://www.portlandwritersmill.org/contests/march-2024-ezine-contest-page/
